Hi! I’m Sofía Mateo, strategy and personal branding consultant, and you’re listening to “Empresaria Nómada”, the podcast where we talk about entrepreneurship, personal development, travel, marketing and much more, all from the perspective of an inquiring mind. In this episode, we’re going to delve into the fascinating world of niche and the fears that often arise when considering this concept. Especially for those entrepreneurs who identify themselves as multipotential and therefore find the idea of focusing on a single target audience challenging. My goal in this episode is to demystify and eliminate most of the fears surrounding this term, and I’ll do so using an example that you’re sure to be familiar with. So, if you are an inquiring mind, this space is for you. Let’s get started! I want to share with you a brief reflection on the fear we sometimes feel about niching ourselves. It seems that the concept of niche makes us think that focusing on one means limiting ourselves to one thing, which can be intimidating for those with multiple interests and skills. In addition, there is the fear that by niching down, we are limiting ourselves to a market that is too small, preventing us from reaching our true potential for growth and expansion. However, nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, focusing on a niche allows us to create a clear and direct message that effectively solves a specific problem. This makes it easier for our target market to find us and keep us in mind when looking for a solution to that problem. In addition, niching does not mean limiting yourself to a local market, but can lead to a global approach. A perfect example of this is Red Bull, whose founder was clear from the beginning that he wanted to create an energy drink for extreme sports athletes. However, this message expanded to include workers, entrepreneurs and students, becoming a globally recognized brand. Therefore, by positioning ourselves correctly, we can create a message and communication that is direct and effective, without spreading ourselves in a generic approach that does not connect with anyone in particular.
